Creating Podcasts
For this session our task was to create a podcast dealing with the topic of EHEC. Our instructor recommended that we use different auditory presentation methods involving lectures, interviews and role plays. We decided to begin with a formal introduction to the topic including a definition of the subject and a description of the situation in Germany at the current time that was read out in form of a new reader. In a second step we implemented the opinion of an expert, which in this case was a doctor who talked about the dangers and the effects of the disease. Finally, we added an interview with a farmer and a consumer to guarantee variety in the material so the audio file would not be too monotone.
For the planning and the realization of this mini-project we used two tools: titanpad and audacity. For a group work where different materials and ideas have to be collected, titanpad provides good opportunities to gather information and exchange opinions about the way in which the project can be realised (the result of our exchange can be found here). For the actual realisation we used audacity, a free audio tool that enables the user to cut any audio file and organise it into several tracks. We were lucky to be in possession of an expert for this tool so we did not need to spend a lot of time to figure out how the program works.
